ELDER CARE AND NURSING HOME INFORMATION

Arkansas Advocates for Nursing Home Residents is an excellent non-profit support organization dedicated to protecting nursing home residents from abuse, neglect, and fraud. AANHR's goal it to improve the quality of nursing home care in Arkansas and provide support for nursing home residents and their families. AANHR holds meetings on the second Monday of each month. AANHR can also assist you in filing a complaint with the appropriate government agencies if you suspect abuse, neglect, or fraud to a nursing home resident.

You can view the AANHR newsletter in Adobe PDF format here. You can visit AANHR's website at www.AANHR.org or e-mail AANHR at info@AANHR.org. For additional assistance or a listening ear, call AANHR at: Conway (501) 327-3152, Fairfield Bay (501) 884-6728, or Little Rock (501) 225-4082.

The Arkansas Attorney General's Offfice also has a toll-free number to investigate elder abuse and Medicaid fraud. Please do not hesitate to call the Attorney General toll-free at 1-866-810-0016 or the Little Rock local number at 682-7760. The website for the Arkansas Attorney General's Office is www.ag.state.ar.us.

The Office of Long Term Care conducts investigations of complaints in which abuse or neglect of residents, or misappropriation of resident property, is witnessed, suspected, or alleged in long-term care facilities. Complaint information is kept confidential. If violations of laws or regulations are found, the Office of Long Term Care can impose fines or other sanctions against the facility, and can exclude the perpetrator from employment in long-term care facilities. Any person can make a complaint, and may do so anonymously. In addition, complaints can be made by mail or e-mail. Also, the OLTC conducts periodic, unannounced surveys of all facilities in Arkansas to ensure that the facilities adhere to minimum requirements for both resident care and physical conditions. The Office can impose fines, revoke licenses, or take other action to ensure compliance.

Call 1-800-LTC-4887 toll-free for information, assistance and complaints for residents and family members between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm on weekdays. A social worker or nurse will be available to answer questions or address concerns. You may also e-mail your questions or concerns to: NadineHaley@mail.state.ar.us or write to: Office of Long Term Care, P.O. Box 8059, Slot 400, Little Rock, AR 72203-8059.

This is an excellent site hosted by the United States Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The "Nursing Home Compare" feature assists you in evaluating the quality of care at any nursing home in Arkansas that accepts Medicare payments.
